Proposed government changes in WhatsApp may make it less popular in India

Indian government is proposing some changes in rules and regulations in the way social media functions in India and some of these proposed changes can endanger these popular social media platforms. One such change is making the messages traceable. Currently only the sender and the recipient can see the messages. This basic feature of WhatsApp may change if government regulations comes in force.

WhatsApp is the most popular social media platform currently in India with over 200 million users. Globally WhatsApp has 1.5 billion users.

The current proposals are not consistent with the strong privacy protections which people demand in India and around the world and this proposed change may make WhatsApp less popular among users.
